The Chalkidiki area is a sailor’s paradise. During your 2026 summer vacation, you’ll notice a sea breeze forms every day from noon until sunset. It provides just enough wind to make sailing fun, and it’s absolutely perfect for beginners who want to enjoy the amazing feeling of gliding with the wind on the water. Out here, it’s just you and nature. The Halkidiki area features beautiful beaches and a lush pine forest that goes right down to the water’s edge. It’s the perfect escape on a typical hot summer day in Greece. So, if you plan to spend your vacation in our area, you simply must do a boat tour—a trip with a captain on one of our sailing yachts to Sithonia or Kassandra.

From Thessaloniki, you can take day sails.

It takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive from Thessaloniki to Neos Marmaras, which might seem like a bit of a drive, but it is well worth it. If you choose this trip, you’ll enjoy a full day that includes driving through a beautiful pine forest on your way to one of the best times you’ve ever had on the water.

It is rated as one of the best Halkidiki excursions on TripAdvisor.
We can also help you arrange a rental car or a shuttle transfer for your group.

Halkidiki day sailing – Yacht charter starting points

From Gerakini, Psakoudia, Metamorphosis, Nikiti, Akti Elias, Lagomandra, Vourvourou, Ormos Panagias, Agios Nikolaos, and Pyrgadikia, it’s an easy trip to Neos Marmaras, Sithonia, Halkidiki, Greece, where our sailing tours begin. For guests coming from the first part of Kassandra—including N. Moudania, Nea Fokea, Athitos (Afitos), Sani, Kallithea, Kriopigi, Polychrono, Haniotis, Pefkochori (formerly Kapsohora), Paliouri, Loutra Agias Paraskevis, Skioni, Possidi, Fourka, and Siviri—our boat charters use the Hrousos pier. From the southern towns on the east coast of Kassandra, you can get a complimentary ride to Kalithea.

The route of the day trip to Halkidiki from Sithonia

Our first stop is Kelyfos, which is also called Helona (meaning “turtle”). The water here is incredibly clear, making it perfect for swimming or fishing. The rocky bottom is teeming with marine life. After that, once the normal sea breeze dies down, we set sail south for Gerochristos Island and Lemos Beach. Both sides of the sandbar that connects the peninsula to the mainland are surrounded by water. You’ll often spot the boats of famous movie stars anchored off the beach. We used to be the only ones going to Angelina Jolie’s favorite beach, but now it’s a popular spot. You can eat your lunch right on the boat. After lunch, we tour the secret coves south of Neos Marmaras and stop for one last swim before heading back to Kamenos, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in Halkidiki. In this spot, the lush green trees go all the way down to the clear water.
The route could change due to weather conditions, at the captain’s discretion, or if the guests want to do something else, like eat lunch while underway to get more sailing time in.

Why do we sail to West Sithonia?

  • It is an incredibly beautiful place to be.
  •

  • It features a lot of hidden coves that can’t be reached by car, where guests who want some privacy can swim and relax.
  •

  • Only the locals know about the best beach bars, which are perfect for guests who want to have some fun.
  •

  • Most of the time, the wind is calm in the morning, and the “boukadoura” wind (sea breeze) kicks in from the south around noon, which makes for great sailing.
  •

  • The main reason we don’t start our tours earlier is that there’s usually no wind in the mornings.
  •

  • If the Meltemi wind gets too strong, we can sail close to land to avoid a rough ride, or we can use it to sail faster and more efficiently.

Because of all this, our home base is in Neos Marmaras, Sithonia, Halkidiki, Greece. This location also allows us to pick up guests from the Kassandra area and whisk them away from the crowded beaches to some of Sithonia’s most breathtaking spots.

What about Mount Athos? Can we visit it on our trip?

We can’t go to Mount Athos because it’s simply too far from where we are based. In fact, there is no starting point in Halkidiki that makes taking a sailboat to Mt. Athos practical. The trip there takes about 2 hours, and the trip back takes about 2.5 hours. Plus, you need at least 2 hours to explore nearby places like Skala Sykias. This means the boat wouldn’t be able to stop for swimming during the 6.5+ hours of sailing (or more likely, motoring). Your group would have to spend most of the day out in the hot sun, with almost no time left to swim or eat lunch.

We’ve tried it in the past, and honestly, nobody enjoyed it. Keep in mind that by law, you can only view the monasteries from at least 500 meters (about 1,600 feet) away. It is illegal to get any closer to the land, and this rule is strictly enforced by the Coast Guard. While photos of the churches from the water look pretty, it’s not the same as actually being inside one. It’s a bit like looking at the Parthenon from a distant hilltop. If you really want to see Mount Athos, we highly suggest taking one of the large tour boats out of Ormos Panagias to spend your morning sightseeing. Then, book another day to just kick back and relax on the water with us!
