Weather in Greece
Current 2026 weather in Greece – forecasts, temperatures and what it means on the water
Greece sits in a classic Mediterranean climate zone: long, bright summers with low rainfall, and milder winters where most of the rain arrives. For sailing and yachting, the headline is consistency—yet the details change a lot by region. The mainland is mountainous (Mount Olympus reaches 2,918 m), and those elevations create local accelerations, gusts and sudden shifts, especially near headlands, channels and steep coastlines. Northern Greece and the Aegean can feel more “continental” at the shoulders of the season, while higher ground can even bring alpine conditions.
As professional skippers, we plan each trip by combining official forecasts with real-time observations. In summer, the Aegean often delivers stronger northerlies (the well-known Meltemi), which can build short, steep seas and make certain passages lively—great for confident crews, but something we manage carefully for families and first-timers by choosing sheltered routes and timing departures. In the Ionian (Preveza/Lefkada), winds are typically lighter and more predictable with afternoon sea breezes, ideal for relaxed island-hopping. Around Athens/Alimos and the Saronic, expect a mix: generally manageable conditions, with occasional stronger events that reward good routing and early starts.
Use the links below for reliable forecasts, wind and wave models, and satellite imagery—then match the data to your area (Halkidiki, Northern Sporades, Ionian or Saronic) and your boat type (sailboat, catamaran, motor yacht). If you’re unsure, ask us: we’ll translate the forecast into a safe, enjoyable plan.

Northern Sporades weather — a skipper’s guide
Weather in Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos The Northern Sporades sit out there in the North Aegean, far enough from the mainland to feel “open sea”, but close enough that the land still shapes the wind. If you are planning a day cruise or a multi-day hop between Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, and the National Marine Park, […]
